Finally! Headaches are gone. Energy is up. Nausea is....still here. But it's a bit better. I am actually having periods of hunger now. Real hunger, where food sounds really good. Of course, I eat half a meal and then I'm nauseated again. But it's progress.
I have also started feeling movement every once in a while. Just tiny little fluttery pops, and they're really intermittant, but it's cool.
Here I am at 14 weeks:
I look cuter and tinier in this picture than I feel. I feel hella bloated and huge. But I'm definitely looking pregnant.
The title says it all....this is a blog about being pregnant with, birthing, and parenting my twins.

Here is my 13 week belly shot.
I am totally huge compared to last time...
I am STILL going through the same hardcore headache phase I was going through at this time with Colin....it's been a bit better yesterday and today, so I am REALLY hoping that this is it. I'm also feeling much more high energy and much hungrier. I'd love to get into the smooth sailing of the 2nd trimester. Any day now.

Starting trimester 2!
I am finally feeling a little better: more energy, and less nausea. I am, however, in the crazy headache phase that I was in for a couple weeks at this time with Colin. I go to bed with a headache, I wake up with a headache. Not eating gives me a headache. Eating gives me a headache. Looking at my computer gives me a headache. Sunlight gives me a headache. I pretty much constantly either have a headache or feel like I could have a headache if I look at the wrong thing. It sucks bad, but should be over soon. It happened exactly like this last time, so I'm hoping it only lasts as long as it did. I am still not eating as much as I apparently should be, but hopefully I'll get there. I have started regaining weight, and am now a pound or two above what I was pre pregnancy. Yay? I am torn between wanting to gain the weight because they need it and not wanting to gain the weight because dammit I just lost almost 20 lbs! But it's going to come whether I want it or not.
The other day I had my first appointment with the OB here in Eugene. Saw thing 1 and thing 2 again on a quick hand-held ultrasound. They are both there, both moving around, both with good heartbeats. I will have my anatomy scan in 5-6 weeks or so, and hopefully will get to find out their genders.
I will post another belly shot soon.

First belly shot!
Here I am at 11 1/2 weeks or so. Last time I wasn't showing at all at 11 weeks. Here I am already looking pregnant.
I've tried to follow my twin diet, but I gave up after 24 hours of feeling like I was trying to shove a thanksgiving dinner in after having already eaten a thanksgiving dinner. I felt sick and gross. So I'm trying to eat as much as I can, but it's a lot less than is recommended due to this morning sickness. My morning sickness is getting a bit worse and now I'm having headaches. I'm hoping this is it getting worse at the end of trimester 1 right before it gets better...I'd really like to be able to eat normal meals without feeling like I'm going to throw up.

So, here's how I did day one of my reverse, cram 3000 calories in, must-feed-the-twins diet.
Fruit: 4 servings (6 recommended)
Vegetables: 4 servings (6 recommended)
Meat/Eggs/Fish: 9 oz (12 recommended)
Dairy: 7 servings (10 recommended)
Grains/Legumes/Starchy Vegetables: 12 servings (12 recommended) Woot! Shocking...I excel at carbs.
Nuts/Oils/Fats: this is harder to calculate. 14 servings recommended (1 T oil or 12 nuts), and I THINK I got all of them with coconut milk curry with cashews...
16 oz glasses of water: 7 (8 recommended)
I didn't count calories, but god, I feel like I ate SO MUCH. Every meal I was cramming stuff in, I ate snacks, and I still haven't eaten my before-bed milkshake. I feel like throwing up. How am I going to get more meat and dairy, let alone vegetables? Ugh.

How the hell am I supposed to eat all that I'm supposed to eat?
So today I bought and started reading Barbara Luke's "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads: Proven Guidelines for a Healthy Multiple Pregnancy," and it is freaking me out. It is supposedly evidence based, and is largely about nutrition in multiple pregnancies. It is basically stating that one of the strongest indicators for carrying twins to term and having them be a healthy weight is the weight you gain in the 1st half of pregnancy (up to 20 weeks). Apparently even though my BMI is a bit high (we won't say how high), I'm supposed to gain 20 lbs in the first 20 weeks.
Now, this would be well and good if I hadn't been horrifically nauseated the 1st 11 weeks and not known that I was carrying twins. Before this pregnancy I was trying to lose weight, and had lost about 20 lbs. I was figuring from everything I read that losing weight trimester 1 is cool, especially if you're nauseated. So I am actually down about 4 lbs from my pre preg weight at 11 weeks. If she is correct, this means I have 9 weeks to gain 24 lbs. Oh, and I'm still nauseated. The amount of water, protein, and sheer calories I am supposed to consume over the next few months is blowing my mind. It SOUNDS good in theory to be able to eat 3000 calories, but aside from 1 serving a day of ice cream, I'm not allowed to eat sweets, starchy stuff, or white bread/pasta. This means that I have to cram an unholy amount of meat, whole grains, and dairy into my body, not to mention the gallon of water and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. All of this with feeling constantly like I have a low grade hangover. I really just want to eat naan all day, frankly. I am going to have to develop some kind of checklist to make sure that I get it all in. I started trying today, and it's just making me feel horribly bloated and terrible. Ugh. But with the fear of preemie twins in the NICU over head, I'm going to keep trying.

Yay! First post! We found out yesterday that we are pregnant with twins. Twins! So this blog is going to be everything pregnancy (belly shots, ultrasound photos, medical stuff, feeeeelings, etc) that come along with being pregnant with, birthing, and then hopefully successfully parenting twins. Yeee haw. We'll start with the photographic evidence.
First, here they both are, in all their twinnish glory. No denying that, that is two babies!
Now we get some individual photos. This is "Baby A" also known as "Thing 1." They always label the baby closest to the cervix as "Baby A." So there he/she is.
And here is Baby B/Thing 2. Adorable!
Both are measuring about 11 weeks. I thought I was 10 1/2 weeks with a due date of Dec 8th. My due date has been moved up to Dec 3rd, and will likely be much earlier even due to the whole twin thing.
So far this pregnancy I have been feeling bigger, more nauseated, and more tired than pregnancy 1. Well, this explains why! Right now I just feel overwhelmed and terrified of trying to deal with 2 newborns as well as my son, who will be 22 months when they are born. Yikes. I was also going to be attempting a VBAC this pregnancy, so we'll see how that goes. It's going to be an adventure, that's for sure.
